They call it Memorial Day for a reason. It’s a time we set aside to remember those who have sacrificed so much through the years for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans today. The history traces back over 150 years to small towns and villages in both the north and south where those sacrifices were very personal to those communities. And so it continues today.
For the fifth consecutive year the Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce is doing its part by hosting Freedom Fest V right on State Street in Oldsmar. The three day event, May 24, 25 and 26 will feature live music from start to finish, plenty of food and arts and craft vendors and fun activities for the kids. Hours will be 5 to 10 pm on Friday May 24, 10 am to 10 pm on Saturday May 25 and concluding Sunday May 26 between the hours of 11am and 6 pm The big tent will be back to supplement the shade of the beautiful oaks and provide more seating to enjoy the great music.
Talking about music we have a star-studded that is guaranteed to knock your socks off. All the Friday night we start off with some local legends on the rock scene Stormbringer. The pace keeps on keeping on Saturday as we’ve booked Cross Eyed-Larry, The Black Honkeys and Bobby Friss back to back to back to really have State Street rockin’. We can pretty much guarantee that this is the best rock talent in the Bay over the weekend. And we don’t slow down much on Sunday as we pair Radio Crime with our closer Greg Billings. It just doesn’t get much better than that!!! Check the Upper Tampa Bay website for the complete schedule as all the talent is not listed here.
We will have State Street configured to allow the flow of the great American bikes to pass through. On Saturday we will be recognizing our true American heroes – our police, firemen, first responders, active duty and retired military bikers and the grand category military tribute bikes. This is always a very moving show and awards ceremony. We will also conduct a special Military Memorial salute to start the event on Sunday morning. This will feature a version of the Pledge of Allegiance like you have never heard and will really bring to home what this great country is all about.
This is THE Bay area’s signature Memorial Day event so make sure you get in on the fun. The best deal of all – the admission is free! You simply can’t afford not come out and show your colors…Red, White and Blue of course!
